The Art of Ideation: From Generic to Inspired Creations

Even with amazing capabilities, our first ideas can still be generic — and that’s totally okay.

Even with amazing capabilities, our first ideas can still be generic — and that’s totally okay.

We have to let those initial thoughts out of our system to clear the path for the really good stuff that's hidden beneath the surface.

The Flow State: Where Creativity Truly Begins

Once we get into the flow state, that's when the magic starts.

  • Our minds expand.

  • We begin to think divergently.

  • Ideas become more creative, more original — and more powerful.

These are the kinds of ideas that stand out and have the potential to be truly extraordinary.

Don’t Cling to the First Idea

Those early concepts?

  • They're just stepping stones.

  • They're not bad — they help get the gears turning.

  • But they’re not where we stop.

We shouldn't hold onto them too tightly. Let them sit aside while we dig deeper into more inspired directions.

Simple ways to stay on track

  • Outline your website structure before designing.

  • Gather all your content (images, text) in one place.

  • Use examples for inspiration but aim to make it your own.

  • Stay open to feedback and be willing to adjust.

Trust the Process and Explore

It’s all about:

  • Trusting the journey

  • Letting yourself explore freely

  • Giving yourself space to make unexpected creative leaps

This mindset helps us tap into our true potential as designers.

And the best part? Watching a simple thought grow into something meaningful is one of the most rewarding feelings in the creative process.
